A heartfelt thank‑you goes to Dr. Richard Piñero and his wife Annette from the Oklahoma Conference Ministerial and Education Departments for making the three‑hour drive north to support the first graduation service of the newly reopened Grand Lake Christian School—formerly Ketchum Adventist School. Their presence added meaning to a milestone year.

After being closed, the school reopened this year under the steady leadership of Lead Teacher/Principal Melanie Stroud, whose dedication, creativity, and tireless commitment have shaped a strong foundation for the school’s renewed mission. Her work has been nothing short of stellar—guiding students academically, nurturing a Christ‑centered environment, and rebuilding trust and momentum within the community.
Supporting her throughout the year was retired educator Vickie Toews, whose experience, encouragement, and hands‑on help have been invaluable. Along with other volunteers and church members, she played a key role in helping the school regain its footing and thrive in its reopening year.
Pastor Kris Knott reflected on the significance of the conference leadership’s attendance, saying, “It speaks volumes to the families whose children were graduating and also to the church members that attended.”
This year’s celebration honored Gabe, completing 8th grade, and Amara, graduating from kindergarten, along with four additional students who finished the year strong and are ready to excel in their next grade levels. Their achievements reflect the combined efforts of dedicated educators, supportive families, and a community committed to Adventist education.
What happened at Grand Lake Christian School this year is more than a reopening—it is a rebirth. A small school with a big heart is once again shaping young lives for Christ, and this first graduation marks the beginning of a hopeful new chapter.
This small‑school graduation carried big meaning—community, connection, and the shared belief that every child deserves to be seen, supported, and celebrated.
