Tulsa Adventist Academy Earns Senior Academy Status
By Caroline A. Fisher, Development Director & High School English Instructor
Tulsa Adventist Academy is finishing the 2025-2026 school year with excitement: the Education Department of the North American Division (NAD) of Seventh-day Adventists has approved Tulsa Adventist Academy’s application to become a Senior Academy. TAA taught 128 students in 2025-2026 and will be the only Adventist school with senior academy status in Oklahoma. Part of TAA’s academic success has been partnering with Ozark Adventist Academy, Sycamore Academy, and Parkview Academy in the past and TAA is deeply appreciative of their assistance. Senior academy status gives TAA the position of helping other schools now.
The NAD worked quickly at their on-campus visit which followed the school board and constituency votes needed to proceed. Principal Larry Seery shared the exciting news with TAA staff and they enthusiastically started brainstorming ways to fill additional requirements. “We are interviewing for two additional positions to meet the requirements of senior academy status: a full-time music teacher/campus chaplain and a full-time director of student services,” Mr. Seery shares.
For several decades, TAA has been operating as a junior academy through grade 10, with twelfth-grade accreditation through Ozark Adventist Academy and Sycamore Academy at various times. TAA currently has several classrooms already filled for school year 2026-2027; however, there are openings in several lower grades and in high school. You are encouraged to apply online at www.tulsaacademy.org or to call TAA’s office at 918-834-1107 for enrollment information.
With senior academy status, TAA’s certified teachers will be teaching more classes, offering more opportunities for current and transferring high school students. “We already offer on-site dual credit speech and Composition I classes through Southwestern Adventist University (SWAU), and more dual credit classes via SWAU’s online courses,” says Caroline Fisher, high school English instructor. With more class options and dedicated teaching, TAA offers current and new students not just the minimum college preparatory courses, but courses that enhance students’ knowledge in a holistic way. How do we know? The MAP scores this school year were encouraging as many students showed not only measurable growth, but some surprising growth too, such as one non-native English speaker whose reading comprehension grew 99%! TAA also sends student and parent surveys several times during the school year to improve our relationship with students and their families. The feedback is valuable and important.
TAA’s core values of being Christ centered, providing holistic education, embodying a family atmosphere, and partnering with families, churches, and the Tulsa community helps TAA staff fulfill our mission of preparing students for heaven and earth each day. We thank our school board, principal, vice-principals, constituent churches and also our past staff for doing the hard work that has resulted in senior academy status. Please pray that we fulfill God’s message to go tell the world about Jesus as we educate students for heaven and earth as a senior academy.
